Ozzy – Homeless in the UK

The homeless have always held a particular interest for me.. After all, many were just like you and me.. What happened?.. One day I’ll be brave enough to ask, sit down and listen..
This is Ozzy, the dog of a homeless person in Exeter UK. This is her reality. Her home. There is no doubt that she loves her person. Adores him. I am happy to have captured this “moment”.
Isn’t it interesting how it appears the homeless take better care of their dogs than some who are more fortunate?

London – Hyde Park & Kensington Gardens
It’s too early to check into my hotel so I leave my bags and head out. Camera in tow of course.
I am fighting sleeplessness and the time change. I pick up a smoothie and a Shwarma and bring myself to Hyde park. There is sunshine; I just sit on a bench and watch. It seems everyone is out with their dogs and children. It’s Sunday in the park.
It’s huge, probably bigger than Central Park; how fortunate to have such a beautiful place.

There are happy dogs running off leash everywhere. It is not always apparent who they belong to; their owners just let them be; free to sniff and roam as they wish. There is little barking. No altercations. Just pure joy at being able to run free.

Where to go?

I am asked for directions several times; I’ve only been here a few hours. I laugh inwardly.
Lots of people. The stream of joggers is exhausting. Young and old. Dressed in shorts and t-shirts or bundled in winter gear, fur lined parkas and hats.
The sound of suitcases rolling everywhere. My brain is fuzzy but the camera keeps me focused.(Gosh I’m funny sometimes)

And so passed my first few hours in London. Now for a quick nap.
Rescued Dogs in the Turks & Caicos Islands
While on vacation in the TCI…paradise…
As far as rescue goes there, I heard from an excursion guide that since they can’t capture all the wild dogs and cats and have them neutered, they are focusing their efforts on the litters. As is the case here, they are vet examined and treated, and then put into foster care. And who adopts them? Believe it or not, the tourists! (No, I didn’t come home with one!)
On a late afternoon walk on an amazing beach, I ran into these two fur babies. Their new mom had moved to the islands about 2 years ago with her family. Now her family is a little bigger…!
By the way, I did not have my equipment with me and so used a point and shoot camera (I’m soo bad at using those!) for these pics – so sorry, the quality isn’t quite up to par.

This is Shirley, who was thrown off the back of a truck.

Breed unknown, but down there they are known as something like “potlucks”. Sure beats being called a mutt!

I guess Shirley is one of the lucky ones. She has healed and is enjoying her puppyhood.

This is, appropriately named, “Scruffy”. He is now with his 5th family. Good Luck buddy, hope it’s the last!
Whenever I meet a rescued dog that is now loved and cared for, I’m Always amazed at how loving, trusting, and forgiving they are. Their faith and trust in humanity really makes them the true optimists. There are few humans, including myself, who are able to forgive and then love so deeply and unconditionally.
“Forgiveness is the fragrance that the violet sheds on the heel that has crushed it.” -Mark Twain
Rescue dogs are that flower… and
“One forgives to the degree that one loves.” – Francois de la Rochefoucauld
and rescue dogs love deeply.
So, wherever you are, please consider adopting a rescue dog – I promise you won’t regret it!
